Hanzell Vineyards

It is with their finely honed vision that Hanzell Vineyards is as relevant and inspiring now as it was in 1957.

Hanzell is an iconic and historic property that includes 46 acres of planted vineyards, 6 acres of residences with gardens, and 148 acres of oak woodland.

Hanzell Vineyards’ forty-six acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted high on the mountain slopes of the Mayacamas Range overlooking the town of Sonoma. The property saddles this ridge with vineyards planted on both west-facing and east-facing slopes as well as on top of the ridge. Originally called Hanzell Farm, the estate continues to produce to this day and is now the oldest Pinot Noir vineyard and the oldest continuously producing Chardonnay vineyard in North America. The Hanzell Clone Pinot Noir and Hanzell Clone Chardonnay are regarded as important heritage clones of California and the bud wood has been propagated to establish other vineyards throughout California and Oregon.

The Heritage Winery & Estate Vineyard Experience

Hosted by one of their knowledgeable Estate Educators, you’ll be led through the original Ambassador’s 1953 Vineyard, the 1976 de Brye Vineyard and the more recently planted 2001 Ramos Vineyard. A discussion of their Grand Cru farming practices and the contribution terroir makes to their wine quality is followed by a walk through the historic heritage winery building, new state-of-the-art winery and barrel-aging cave.

A seated tasting of their current release wines, Hanzell “Sebella” Chardonnay, Hanzell Vineyards Chardonnay and Hanzell Vineyards Pinot Noir, will conclude the visit.  This experience is very personal and reservations are a must.  Please contact Hanzell directly to reserve your experience.
